SSL. What is it?


Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SSL is an application layer protocol created by Netscape for managing the security of message transmissions in a network. SSL uses the public-and-private key encryption system from RSA, which also includes the use of a digital certificate. SSL certificates have many uses but the most common use is for web sites that wish to provide its users with a secure page for either paying online with a credit card or logging into a secure section of the web site
